October 28, 2018
We had a very busy but fun week. We continued to look at the five senses and learned new vocabulary words: blind, Braille, deaf, dogs from Seeing Eye. We watched a children’s video about the dogs from Seeing Eye that are trained to help the blind. Many class discussions ensued. We will continue with Touch/Textures this week. Oreo cookies, graham crackers, frosting, and pretzel sticks (ladders) were used to create fire trucks. The students seemed to enjoy the frosting more than anything. We went on a neighborhood walk to use the senses we had studied. Check out the responses on the chart in the hallway. October is Fire Safety Month. We discussed fire safety at home and what to do in a fire drill. Please talk with your child about a safe place to go in case of a fire at your home. There are some very important reminders for you this week.
- Parent Teacher Conference letters were sent home on Friday for you to choose a time that works for you. Please get these back to me with your requested time. Whenever I receive your responses, I will put together a confirmation letter for you. Each conference lasts 15 minutes. If you have a morning conference, you will need to be on-time since the students start coming to the classroom at 8:00 AM. Conferences begin in the first week of November. We will discuss the results of the ESRI Assessments that were done. If you have any questions you would like answered, please also bring them with you.
- Book order forms went home on Friday. If you wish to give books as gifts, this is the time to get them. You may also order on-line. They will send me an email when you submit an order. Orders are due on Friday, November 9, 2018. I will submit all orders on this day. I want to get them back before we go on the Thanksgiving break.
- The weather is changing. Please check your child’s change of clothing box and replace all summer wear for warmer wear.
- We have a trip planned to the local firehouse this Thursday. I did not inform you in our class newsletter because it was not confirmed until after the students went home. I need two (2) more parents and it will be first-come, first-served. Let me know first thing tomorrow morning.
Well, enjoy the remainder of your weekend and I’ll see you tomorrow.
