Winter Break is over and we’re gearing up for the long haul before Easter. This week we’ll be learning about the premier winter celebration in Alaska. The Iditarod Sled Dog Race will begin next Saturday, March 2nd with a ceremonial start in Anchorage, and followed the next day with the real start in Willow. We will learn about the history behind the race, what it takes to prepare a team, the work of volunteers who help make the event happen, and follow mushers progress along the trail.
Our math lessons will focus on telling time, grammar will cover the use of commas and present tense verbs, and spelling will involve additional vowel sounds. Our reading lessons will focus on the old folktale, “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and another version titled, ” Abuelo and the Three Bears”. Friday will be Dr.Seuss Day when we’ll read “The Lorax” and gain insights into Dr.Seuss’ inspirations for this work.
Have a great week. I know my alarm clock will be a rude awakening in the morning.
